Kentucky Classic 2009 Show News

Our show was a great success again in 2008 and work has already begun for the show this year. This year the dates are July 10, 11 and 12, 2009, at the Shelbyville county Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ky. We are having another show committee meeting on April 4th at noon at Kay Chiappetta Farm. Anyone who wants to help out at the show or clinic is welcome to attend. The more people we have the better. Again we are always open for ideas and suggestions and volunteers for our show every year. Your opinion matters.

National PFHA News

From the delegate’s desk: Highlights/Lowlights

1. Long Discussion regarding Membership, Transfers, Breedings etc. which will not be discussed at this time. The Economy is bad and the horse portion (business or hobby) is no exception. We will stay away from this subject in this newsletter update. We are still a viable association and region. We must concentrate on building our cash reserves to ensure ongoing success. If anyone has questions in this area I will be glad to answer them in person or on the phone. 502-647-4914

2. Reviewed all the committee reports (Amateur Owner to Youth and everything in between). They can be viewed on the National Web Site. The busiest committee (in my opinion) is the Amateur Owner one. It is chaired by Kathy Yarborough from Tennessee and they have great number of creative ideas about the amateur in the show ring. Feel free to contact her or any other committee member about your ideas or suggestions. There is a new approved show guide that is available through the office, your KPFHA or Kathy's committee.

3. Reviewed and approved the 2009 Budget. The association has done the appropriate thing by "hunkering down" for the storm we are currently in. Cutbacks in the office, reduction of expenses (like the Marketing budget allocation) and review of a number of marginal programs are the headlines.

4. Discussed future sites for the Nationals starting in 2012 and beyond. There is a few exciting choices to be investigated and then compared to Perry. More on this subject after the April meeting.

5. Gwyn Wright from Georgia is returning as the National Show Chairperson for 2009. We will offer support wherever we can as this is a "thankless" job and one that needs all the help it can get. Anyway, this is good news.

6. The Paso Fino Horse World is now being created and produced in house. S. Dunkin is the editor and welcomes your articles, thoughts and Ads. We need to work together as a large membership group to make this a success.

7. The National Web Site is being revised as you read this. The promise is to make it more functional and more users friendly. The office will benefit from the reduced work facilitated by the new functionality. Changes should be evident soon.

8. Christy Meyer is the new Youth chair. If you got some interest in steering tomorrow's amateurs (today's youth riders) give her a call. The youth movement is on in our breed so let's keep it going.

9. Recreational Riders. Al Friebert and a whole bunch of other folks were involved in this committee in 2008. Call Al and ask him about it. Almost 80% of the PFHA are trail riders. Pasos for Pleasure is the PFHA Trail riding program. Support it if you want. Have fun with it if you want. Get involved at your desired level. That's the National "motto".

10. Personnel updates: A. Dick Lockhart has completed his term on the Executive committee and now is the Chair of the Hearing committee. Thanks Dick for the "memories" and good luck with your new assignment. B. Bob Windsor is now an elected member of the Rules committee chaired by Lynn Burke of TN region.

11. Election results are in the newest Horse World, but here they are again: President: Ed Smith from Texas, VP: Edie Gandy from Florida, Treasurer: Peggy Tanner from Oklahoma, and Secretary: Sue Niebling from Missouri. Committee chairs are set and here we go for another 2 years.

12. Next meeting in April in Atlanta, fall meeting TBD In Oct. and Jan. 2010 Membership convention is in.......Las Vegas

In summary, here's the message from the Board. FIND THOSE MEMBERS AND KEEP THEM AFTER YOU FIND THEM. We need to show all current and prospective Paso Fino owners that there is a value to bonding with others and we want to have fun with our special horses together.

See Ya ... Bob

Benefit for Eli Hutchins

Saturday March 28, 2009 at 1:00pm at the First Christian Church in Bardstown, Ky. (on 245 and adjacent to 3rd street). This is a benefit put on by Rhonda’s sister-in-law, Brooke Hutchins, for Eli’s medical expenses.

This will be a carnival type event and will be fun, especially for the kids. There will be a silent auction, with some very good donations so far. If you have an item you would like to donate, or something for a theme basket, that would be great, or if you can come by and show support by being there that would be appreciated too. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Eli, Rhonda and Eric Hutchins
